Delayney Lunsway is a busy student who has excelled in academics and in her favorite sport, soccer. But she has also devoted over 50 hours during the pandemic to viewing and annotating interviews of WWII veterans from Riley County.
The Riley County Veterans History project videos were at the Manhattan Library and the Riley County Historical Society, but they would have been difficult for anyone outside of Manhattan to access. But MHS teacher and Key Club advisor (and Army vet) Lisa Julian has digitized and uploaded to YouTube many of these interviews, and Delayney Lunsway has spent hours listening to them, and creating the program notes, including subject-matter time-stamps for these Youtube videos.
The project isn’t complete, but when it is, her notes will be below many of the videos. Researchers and family members of these WWII veterans will be able to easily find them online and locate specific subject matters of interest.
Delayney came to our club’s meeting last night and told us about the process she undergoes for each video. She was accompanied by her mom and dad Summer and LInc Lunsway, and her sister Shaylee. Manhattan Kiwanis, MHS and the Riley County Historical Society are grateful to Delayney and Lisa Julian for their work on this project. These videos will eventually be indexed with the Library of Congress.
